"Document content is unprintable", what should I do?

More complex PDFs e.g. government forms or PDFs with multiple layers can sometimes result in an error when attempting to print.

Error:

Having multiple layers in a document can pose challenges for printers when it comes to processing. We are aware of this issue and are continuously working on improving our compatibility. In most cases, the printing error can be quickly resolved by resending the print job using the extended compatibility feature from the Princh Admin Panel, "flattening" the PDF or converting it to a different format.

Solutions:

  1. If a print job fails due to document compatibility issues, you can choose to resend it using extended compatibility feature from the 'Dashboard' tab in the Princh Admin Panel.
    1. This enhancement automatically optimizes and downgrades PDFs from version 1.4 to 1.3, flattening and preparing them for maximum printer compatibility. Please note, that this may extend the time required to print.
  1. If the first solution does not work, this issue may be circumvented by "flattening" the PDF manually - essentially reducing the complexity of the document, merging the different layers into one, making it easier for the printer to process the file. This will, in most situations, resolve any document errors that may occur.

  2. If you are printing from a public library that provides public computers with Princh installed, follow these steps: Transfer your document to one of these computers and save it locally. Then, open it with Adobe Acrobat Reader and print from there. Adobe Acrobat Reader automatically applies light flattening before printing, which may help resolve printing issues.

  3. Convert the file to a different format. If flattening the PDF does not resolve the issue, and the print job still results in an error, we recommend attempting to convert the PDF to a different format like .JPEG, .PNG, or similar.

There are numerous online "flattening" tools freely available for use, such as:
